Gangster School: Gruffles and the Killer Sheep by Kate Wiseman

Gruffles and the Killer Sheep is set in Crumley’s School for Career Criminals. They are Blaggard’s bitter rivals and Milly and Charlie are not exactly keen to go there to attend Crimicon – an annual convention for the most promising young criminals. There are some new characters – Dr B L Zeebub, Crumley’s fiendish head teacher; Trickery Hackett, a young Crumleian who may just have an ulterior motive for her overtures of friendship, and Blotch, the leader of a herd of sinister sheep who roam Crumley’s grounds behaving in a very unsheeplike manner. There’s also a terrifying machine that can suck all the villainy out of the most hardened criminal.

I was really excited to get started with reading Gruffles and the Killer Sheep because I have really enjoyed the previous two Gangster School books, and this one looked like it was going to be just as fun. I have found the Gangster School book to be the sort of read that will entertain you all the way through while having you roll on the floor in fits of laughter, and I am happy to report that Gruffles and the Killer Sheep is more of the same, and if not better.

The book is still set in Blaggard’s which is like Hogwarts school for criminals, so they can learn all things criminology like, lock pickings and the art of frabication (lying). Milly, Charlie, Gruffles and the gang all return in this exciting third book and this time they are attending Crimicon where they have to keep their school’s glowing reputation as the perfect school for criminals. But with all these criminals something unusual kicks off a chain of events that make this book so difficult to put down.

Gruffles and the Killer Sheep for me is the best book of the series so far. I enjoyed every minute reading this and I am sure other fans of the series will agree with me. I thought the storyline was really well thought out and something entirely original and it had me glued to every page, as well as having me laughing out loud. I thought the gang worked really well together and reading about their adventures was a real highlight of my reading month.

Having read the previous two books in the series I know now to expect the unexpected and this book is just like the rest. The book is so unexpected and full of twists, turns and mayhem that its hard not to fall down a reading hole and not come out of the hole until the very last page. I could imagine children hanging onto every word of this book and be gripped from beginning to end. I managed to read this in just one sitting and in just over an hour because once I started I couldn’t and wouldn’t put the book down.

Gangster School: Gruffles and the Killer Sheep is the sort of book any child and adult would enjoy. It has everything you need to keep you occupied from beginning to end. I can’t wait to see what other adventures are in store for Milly and the gang, if its anything like the other three books then I know I’m in for a bumpy ride.
