A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson

I love myself a good murder mystery novel but there are not many around with a young adult as the main character, so when I read about A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder I was both intriguing and very excited to add it to my TBR. Thankfully the hype and my expectations were both warranted for this book because I absolutely loved it. It was everything I wanted and so much more, I cant get over how much I really enjoyed reading this book.

This story is about Pip trying to solve a murder that happened to a girl from her school five years ago. Someone was arrested for the murder but Pip thinks that they were innocent and someone else murdered Andie Bell. I really enjoyed reading Pip’s investigation she is a hardworking and dedicated character and will not stop at anything to bring justice. I thought Pip and Ravi as a duo were enjoyable to read about and I liked it that it was not all about romance but instead it was about solving the case.

One thing I really liked about this book was that it had two different writing styles, we had what was happening to Pip and Ravi, as well as having Pip’s logbook. I enjoyed reading both of these because it broke the story up a bit but also gave you a little bit more insight into how everything was pricing together and it just felt a bit more real. If this was a real murder case there would be logbooks, flow charts and lists, and reading all these just gave this book another dimension.

I thought the writing was superb, I got lost in the story almost immediately and found it to be very gripping. Sometimes you read books like this and they can feel a little samey but I found this to be the exact opposite, it felt new, fresh and original. The plot keeps you guessing until the end where you think you know everything but then suddenly everything is turned upside down and twisted completely on its head.

I thoroughly enjoyed A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder and would highly recommend it to all readers who love a story that will have you gripped and guessing until the very end. Even though the main character is a young adult I still feel that readers of all ages will enjoy this book. I would read this book again and I know I would enjoy it just as much the second or third time as I did the first time.
