December Wrap Up

December has been a busy month for me with work and everything so I have not had much time to read or blog, which is a little disappointing. But I did manage to read nearly all my books on my TBR and hopefully I manage to read the books I didn’t have time to read this month, next month. One thing I am happy about this month is that I managed to read books that I don’t normally read or even consider to pick up, and I did really enjoy them.

The Last by Hanna Jameson

I got hooked with this book almost immediately. I thought the premise of the book was really interesting and the writing was really engaging. I thought the pacing slowed down a little towards the middle of the book but picked it again as we got to the end. I will definitely be reading more of the authors work in the future.

The Body in the Boat by A. J. Mackenzie

Even though The Body in the Boat is the third and final book in a series it can still be read as a standalone book and I found it to be a really enjoyable read. I really liked the two main characters and found the mystery side of the book to be intriguing and addictive.

City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab

Victoria Schwab is one of my go to authors and I will read anything they write. City of Ghosts is the first book in a new series and if the rest of the series is just like this book then it will quickly become one of my all time favourite book series. I loved every minute of the book and I can’t believe I have put off reading this book for so long.

Normal People by Sally Rooney

This book is not normally something I read but after it won quite a few awards recently I thought I would give this book a try and I am so glad I did because I absolutely loved it. After reading the first chapter I instantly fell in love with both of the characters and with the writing. It’s a slow build story but it’s so addictive.

Heartstopper Volume One by Alice Oseman

Graphic Novels are not something that I usually read but after seeing a kickstarter campaign for this book earlier this year I couldn’t resist buying a copy. I started this one evening and finished it a couple of hours later. It was loving,  heartwarming and so well written, I cant wait to read more in the future.

Book of the Month

It really was a difficult decision this month to pick my book of the month because I read some really amazing books and all were so different. But I have decided to go with Normal People by Sally Rooney. I was mesmerised by this book and once I started I found it really difficult to put down. The writing is so raw and real that’s its hard not to become attached to Connell and Marianne. Even though the story isn’t an easy story to read because it pulls at your emotions, it’s still an addictive read.

  1. I feel like I’ve heard a few things about Normal People, but nothing stands out in my mind. I definitely will want to check out Heartstopper.

I think my favorite that I read in December was Longbourn, a parallel story to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.
