Trouble is brewing at Blaggard’s School for Tomorrow’s Tyrants. Sir Byron’s Brain, a priceless legendary diamond, has gone missing. If it leaves the school grounds, Blaggard’s will be destroyed forever and the head teacher obliterated! Could the evil Brotherhood of Brimstone – an ancient secret society – have anything to do with it? Best friends Milly and Charlie embark on an adventure to find out. They discover a web of evil plots involving Gruffles, Charlie’s stinky dog, and Wolfie, the robot dog turned invisible superhero. On top of this, Blaggard’s is expecting a school inspection from the mysterious Dr X – Chief Inspector of Criminal Schools. He could turn up at any time, and no one knows what he looks like. Time is running out for Milly and Charlie. Will Dr X appear? And can our heroes defeat the evil Brotherhood, rescue their canine companions and save the day?
After really enjoying the first Gangster School book I was excited to start reading this second book in the series. I didn’t think anything could top the first book because it had everything, laughs, brilliant characters and a really engaging storyline, but Kate Wiseman has knocked it out of the park with The Brotherhood of Brimstone because it’s even better than the first one.
It’s time for forget about Hogwarts because Blaggard’s is a school for criminals, and this is the school that everyone wants to be. The story kicks off when a priceless diamond goes missing causing a curse to be released on the school. It’s up to Milly, Charlie and Gruffles to save the day.
One thing I thoroughly enjoyed about the first book was the friendship between Milly, Charlie and Gruffles the dog, and it was so nice to dive back into this world and experience the friendship all over again. Just reading abut their adventures warms your heart and make you smile from ear to ear. I loved how they developed a bit more as characters in this book, and I am excited to see how they grow throughout the series. But this book doesn’t only revolve around the characters from the first book, there are loads more new and exciting characters to fall in love with.
Again Kate Wiseman has a way with words that will leave you unable to put the book down. I spent an afternoon reading this second book and every minute of it was enjoyable. The plot is really interesting and and I found myself laughing out loud while reading some of this book. The way she manages to write such an engaging story and create such an amazing host of characters is a testament to her writing ability and should be shared with everyone.
If you are looking for a new series to loose yourself in for a few hours then I would highly recommend you read the Gangster School series, both books are such brilliant reads. And if you have already read the first book in the series, then you should definitely pick up this book because Gangster School was a hard act to follow, but The Brotherhood of Brimstone is an equally enjoyable read, full of heart and full of laughs!
I rate this book 5/5 stars
