June Wrap Up

I didn’t manage to read my entire TBR for this month, but I am okay with that because some of the books I have read this month were pretty hefty books. This month I decided to read two of the more chunkier books that I needed to read for reviews. I am surprised that I managed to read both because just looking at them made me think I would struggle to get them both read in a month. But luckily both of the books were really interesting and engaging, so I managed to fly through them.

The books I read in June were-

Caraval by Stephanie Garber

Caraval was a re-read for me, and after really enjoying it last year I was a little hesitant in reading it again because I was unsure whether it would still live up to my very high expectations. But I needn’t had worried because I think I enjoyed it more the second time round because I managed to pick up on a few more things that I missed the first time reading Caraval, and I still enjoyed the twists and turns of the story. I can see myself reading this for years to come and still never get bored of it. Its all so magical and intriguing that its hard not to fall in love with both the world and the characters from the very start.

Legendary by Stephanie Garber

There was a lot of hype surrounding this book before I started it, which I can understand because Caraval was amazing, but then it also made my expectations of the book increase the more and more I heard about the book. Thankfully the book is just as amazing as Caraval and does deserve all the hype and praise it has been getting. Caraval is a difficult book to follow because it is so well thought out, and beautifully written. Normally the sequel to a first book is not as good, but Legendary definitely stands out as a sequel that works. I really enjoyed the plot, I thought the characters felt a bit more developed a fleshed out, and the writing as always was stunning.

Empire of Silence by Christopher Ruocchio

Empire of Silence has to be one the biggest books I have every been sent to review. It is over 700 pages! I am not going to lie I was a little daunted by the size of the book because I don’t read many books that are over 500 pages, but luckily this book held my interest throughout. Recently there has been a lot of talk about Empire of Silence and about how refreshing it is, and I have to say that I agree. I managed to read this book in just over a week, which for me isn’t bad because I have work most days and only really find time to read at night. But I really did enjoy reading this, the plot was well thought out and I really did like the characters.

The Rig by Roger Levy

The Rig is another book that I was a little put off by the size, but I picked this one up straight after Empire of Silence because I was in the mood for some sci-fi. I have to say that I really did enjoy the concept for the book a lot. There were parts that I thought could of been trimmed down or cut completely to make the book flow a little better, but on a whole I really did enjoy this story and the writing. This is my first Roger Levy novel and I will be checking out his other works to see if anything jumps out at me as something that I would enjoy to read because I found his writing to be really engaging in this book.

Book of the Month

Really I could of chosen two books to have as my Book of the Month this month because I really did enjoy reading both, but I have decided to go with a book that wasn’t a re-read, so the book I’ve chosen is Legendary by Stephanie Garber. I just cant get over how amazing this book is. Before starting this I couldn’t even guess where the story would go but Stephanie seems to have such an amazing imagination that she can write a story that is so unique and interesting that you instantly fall in love with. I cant wait to see what she has install for us for last book in the trilogy, if its anything like the first two books then I know its going to be an amazing read.
