March Wrap Up

This month I only managed to read the books I put on my TBR. I struggled to get anything else read because of work, and because some the books were long reads. There were some books that I wasn’t too keen on, and I think I will have to give them another read in the future before writing a review. Also this month I had to DNF my first book of the year.

The books I read in March were-

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

I had to leave this book unfinished. I really wasn’t feeling it and I just didn’t connect with either the story of its characters. Its a shame because I have heard some many great things about this book, so I was a little disappointed that I found it so difficult to read. Hopefully in the near future I will give this a re-read and finish the book.

Did Not Finish

I will rate this when I’ve read it again.

Gangster School by Kate Wiseman

I was sent this middle grade novel to review, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I knew by just reading the synopsis for the book that it would be a fun read, but I didn’t think I would love it as much as I did. I really liked the setting and the characters. The writing was superb and the ideas the author came up with made this a really funny read. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

This is another series that I have heard so many positives reviews about, and I wanted to read this first book before the TV series starts. I am not going to lie it did take me a while to read this book, but thats because I wanted the experience of reading it to last longer. I loved everything about this book, the characters felt real, the story was exciting and original, and the writing was brilliant. I can’t wait to read the next two books in the series, and to see what the TV series will be like.

White Rabbit Red Wolf by Tom Pollock

I was so excited to read this book after all the hype its been getting, but I was a little disappointed by it. I think it was more me than the book. I just think I wasn’t in the right mood to read the book and instead of putting it down, I ploughed through it, and didnt enjoy it. I will definitely be giving this a re-read towards the release date and give it a review then.

Scythe by Neal Shusterman

This was another book that exceeded my expectations. I knew this was going to be a good read, but I found it to be a great read and I need to read the sequel really soon. I loved the writing, the setting and the characters. I read this in only a couple of sittings, I couldn’t put it down.

Shadowsong by S. Jae-Jones

I read Wintersong last year and really enjoyed it, so I was excited to start reading this to see how it would end. While I enjoyed this book as a whole, I think I enjoyed Wintersong a little bit more. Thats not to say that this book is bad, because it definitely isn’t, but I think because the first book is so good, Shadowsong had a lot to live up too. I loved reading S. Jae-Jones writing again though, I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next.

Book of the Month

This month was a really mixed bag for books, but the one book that stood out for me was Gangster School by Kate Wiseman. I wasn’t expecting to love this book as much as I did, so this has to be my book of the month. As soon as I started to read it I instantly fell in love with the characters and the setting. For me it was like Harry Potter but with criminals instead of magic. Everything about this book makes it a perfect read, and when its released in a couple of months I urge you all to go out and give it a read because you won’t be disappointed.

  1. Do you keep a list of your DNFs? What’s your criteria? Still sounds like a busy reading month! I think the best thing I read was The Library at the Edge of the World it was just the quaint sofa read that I needed.
