August TBR

In August I have broken up my TBR because I am going away for a week in the middle of the month, and I have decided to do a separate TBR for my holiday. This month I will continue with reading the Shadowhunters series. I managed to get two read last month so I am about half way through the entire series now. Also this month I plan on reading books that have been sent to me for review. I know last month I didn’t post many reviews and I think thats because I was in a review slump and I found it difficult to write reviews. But now hopefully I am out of the slump and will post more regularly this month.

The books I plan on reading in August are-

Dividing Eden by Joelle Charbonneau

Twins Carys and Andreus were never destined to rule Eden. With their older brother next in line to inherit the throne, the future of the kingdom was secure. But appearances—and rivals—can be deceiving. When Eden’s king and crown prince are killed by assassins, Eden desperately needs a monarch, but the line of succession is no longer clear. With a ruling council scheming to gain power, Carys and Andreus are faced with only one option—to take part in a Trial of Succession that will determine which one of them is worthy of ruling the kingdom. As sister and brother, Carys and Andreus have always kept each other safe—from their secrets, from the court, and from the monsters lurking in the mountains beyond the kingdom’s wall. But the Trial of Succession will test the bonds of trust and family. With their country and their hearts divided, Carys and Andreus will discover exactly what each will do to win the crown. How long before suspicion takes hold and the thirst for power leads to the ultimate betrayal?

I was sent this book to review a couple of weeks back and I have been itching to start reading it. Just re-reading the description has made me want to drive into this book straight away because it seems to have everything to make this an epic read.

House of Furies by Madeleine Roux

91IugWz3NoL

After escaping a harsh school where punishment was the lesson of the day, seventeen-year-old Louisa Ditton is thrilled to find employment as a maid at a boarding house. But soon after her arrival at Coldthistle House, Louisa begins to realize that the house’s mysterious owner, Mr. Morningside, is providing much more than lodging for his guests. Far from a place of rest, the house is a place of judgment, and Mr. Morningside and his unusual staff are meant to execute their own justice on those who are past being saved. Louisa begins to fear for a young man named Lee who is not like the other guests. He is charismatic and kind, and Louisa knows that it may be up to her to save him from an untimely judgment. But in this house of distortions and lies, how can Louisa be sure whom to trust?

I have heard some many great things about the Asylum series that Madeleine Roux wrote, that I have very high hopes in this book. I have also had a quick flick through and noticed that there are some illustrations and drawings dotted about, so it looks like this will hopefully be a scary but interesting read.

The Never King by James Abbott

Xavir Argentum is rotting in gaol. Sentenced to life in the squalor of Hell’s Keep, punishment for an atrocity he didn’t commit, the once legendary commander is all but forgotten. His elite band of warriors are dead – and the kingdom he was poised to inherit is oppressed by the tyrant who framed him. For half a decade now, Xavir has ruled nothing but a prison gang. Yet vengeance comes to those who wait. When a former spymaster infiltrates the Keep, bearing news of his old enemy’s treachery, plans are forged. A few are compelled to restore peace – an exiled queen, an outcast witch, and an unlikely alliance of rogues and heroes. But peace and vengeance make poor companions. And first, Xavir must make his escape . . .

I have had this book sitting on my bookshelf for a while now and after last month where I read mostly contemporary books, I can’t wait to get stuck into this book and the world. The premise sounds interesting and I have heard some great things about this book already.

One of Us is Lying by Karen M McManus

Yale hopeful Bronwyn has never publicly broken a rule. Sports star Cooper only knows what he’s doing in the baseball diamond. Bad body Nate is one misstep away from a life of crime. Prom queen Addy is holding together the cracks in her perfect life. And outsider Simon, creator of the notorious gossip app at Bayview High, won’t ever talk about any of them again. He dies 24 hours before he could post their deepest secrets online. Investigators conclude it’s no accident. All of them are suspects. Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you’ll go to protect them.

I have seen this book all over the book community recently and I can wait to see whether the book lives up to all the praise and hype. I loved the Gossip Girl TV series, and hope by reading this I will get the vibes from the show again. I can see myself reading the entire book in one sitting, if its as good as the reviews are saying.
