I really enjoyed Here Be Witches. It kept me glued to my seat, and made it very difficult to put down. Once I started reading I was swept away into the mystical world and I never wanted to leave. It has left me wanting to read more from this series.

I was a little nervous about reading this book because the series was new to me, and with this being the second book in the series, I didn’t think I would understand or connect with the characters. But now having read the book I have to say that it does read like a standalone and you don’t have to have read the first book to enjoy this one. I did read a couple of reviews for the first book before reading, just to try and understand the world and plot, and that did help me a bit. But I think its not necessary to do that because this book still introduces you to all the characters and the story, so you are not left confused.

I really liked Ellie as our main character, she is strong, adventurous and very likeable person. I was immediately pulled into the story because of her character and it didn’t take long for me to understand and relate to her as a character. She is also portrayed as a real teenager with real problems and real choices to be made. When reading this book you cant help but feel for her and the journey she has been through.

The plot for this book kept me hooked to every page and I really enjoyed the pacing of the book. With the story being set over three days, everything in the plot had a sense of urgency, which meant that there was no dull or slow parts to the story. That doesn’t mean that the characters and the story was left undeveloped, because it wasn’t. Everything throughout was written to a high standard, it just wasn’t full of unnecessary scenes or slow plot points.

This is the first time I have read anything by Sarah Mussi, and now I cant wait to read more of her work. The way she writes and the things she thinks of to keep both the plot interesting and exciting is such a pleasure to read. I really liked how she got into the mind of a teenager to think of how they would react and feel and most importantly how they would talk. I have read many books where the main character is a teenager but when reading the book you can tell the author hasn’t put any thought into how a teenager actually speaks. But I can honestly say that Sarah Mussi has thought of all this and has written and amazing book.

I am so happy I got a chance to read this book because I really did enjoy reading it. It has got me excited to carry on with the series and also checking out the first book, just so I can read more about the characters and read more of Sarah Mussi’s writing. I hope more and more people will read this book and this series because just by reading this book I can tell this series will be amazing.
