March Wrap Up

I managed to read a total of eight books in the month of March. I pleased with that because I did find myself edging towards a reading slump, but somehow I managed to avoid it and still read quite a few books. Mostly I read book that were sent to me from publishers, so you can expect reviews for all them in the next couple of weeks. I enjoyed all the books I read this month, and I managed to read quite a few books from authors who I haven’t read anything by them before.

Below is my thoughts and ratings for all the books I read in March-

King’s Cage by Victoria Aveyard

After re-reading Red Queen and Glass Sword in February, I wanted to try and read King’s Cage in March while the story was still fresh in my mind. It had come to the last week of march and I was struggling to find time to read it, so instead I downloaded the audiobook and listened to it. I managed to listen to this in two sittings. It was brilliant and I think this could be my favourite book of the series. The only downside is now having to wait until next year for the next book.

The Roanoke Girls by Amy Engel

This book was sent to me to review, and I was very excited to start this because I have seen it everywhere on Twitter, and everyone was saying how good it was. I have to say that it has to be one the most dark and disturbing books I have ever read, but it kept me glued to every page.

Hekla’s Children by James Brogden

This was another dark and creepy book that I read this month, that was sent to me to review by the publisher. I started to read this at night and it did genuinely scare me a little while reading. I loved the story, it was something different from what I normally read and I didn’t find the plot boring or dull.

Phantom Limbs by Paula Garner

I was sent this book for review from the publisher, and I am so glad I did because it is such a great contemporary story. I didn’t know too much about the before starting, which I liked doing when I read contemporary books because I like to learn about the characters as I am reading. Once I started this book I found it very difficult to put down and I managed to finish it in a couple of days.

Gilded Cage by Vic James

This is the book I was most excited to read in March, and it took a lot of will power to not read it right at the beginning of the month. I have had this book on my self for a while and I was itching to start it. Now I have finished it, it was worth the wait, I loved it. It was exciting, gripping, full of magic and written beautifully. I cant wait to read the sequel.

Relics by Tim Lebbon

Again this was another book that had some dark and somewhat creepy elements to its story. I loved the concept of the story and the characters, I found myself reading for hours without evening knowing it. Thank you for the publisher for sending me a copy because I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

After seeing the trailer for the Netflix series I was intrigued and wanted to read the book before bingeing on the series. I loved the format of the book and the way the story was told. I was hooked in the beginning, then towards the middle I did find myself getting a little bored, then at the end I was hooked again. I will still be giving the series a watch though because the trailer made this book look amazing.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

I was kindly sent this book for review from the publisher, and as soon as it got delivered I started reading it. There has been a lot of hype surrounding this book and I was a little frightened that it wouldn’t live up to it, but it definitely does. I can see this book still being talked about many years from now because it is going to stick with many readers.

Book of the Month

The book of the month for March is a tough choice because there were quite a few to choose from, but in the end I decided to go with Gilded Cage by Vic James. From the very first page I loved this book. The story is different, exciting and very intriguing, which makes me think that this is going to be an amazing series. If you want to read a book that has a new and original take on magic, with interesting characters, that’s all beautifully written, then Gilded Cage is a must read.
