I just want to start off by saying that The One has to be one of my favourite reads ever. It has everything you want in a brilliant book. It has well thought-out and developed characters, an original and exciting storyline, and its all written beautifully.

The One is set in todays world where everyone and anyone can take a test and be matched up with a person who shares the same matching gene in their DNA, that matching person is meant to be their true love. The plot is about five different people who take the test and what happens after they find their true love. The five characters have very different experiences when they find their One, each will leave you hooked to every page.

I don’t want to go into too much about the characters and the stories because this is the sort of book that you need to go into blindly to enjoy the story fully. But I will say that each character has an intriguing story and I found it hard to leave the character at the end of the chapter and move onto a new character. If I did have to pick a character whose story I liked the most then I would have to say I enjoyed Nick’s experience a little bit more than the rest. That’s not to say the others bad because they are definitely not. I have lent this book out twice after reading it and both people have come up with different suggestions on whose story they liked the best. I think I just found Nick’s story to be a bit more relatable and that’s probably why I liked it a little more than the others.

The overall story had me gripped from the very start and throughout the book made me wonder if I would take the test or not. When I first started to read the book I decided that yes I would give the test a go just to see who I would be paired with, that’s if I was paired with anyone. But as I continued reading I changed my mind a couple more times because of the experiences the characters had in this book. This is another reason I loved this book because it makes you question yourself when reading the book and it makes you think. I spoke to many people about the concept of the book and they all found it intriguing and were curious about the book. I know it must be a great concept when I have people who never read a book asking to borrow it to read.

John Marrs’ writing won me over by the end of the first chapter. I was easy to read but it didn’t leave out any detail, everything was told and described beautifully. John’s writing had me on the edge of my seat many times throughout the book and it was very difficult to put down. Even when I closed the book I was still thinking about it hours later and when I finished the book it was still on my mind many days after.

I would recommend this book to everyone in a heartbeat because The One has something for everyone. If your looking for an original storyline that will keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat until the very end, with well developed and interesting characters, then The One is the perfect book for you.
