Inherited by Freedom Matthews

This book is amazing, I knew I was going to enjoy this book just by reading the description, but by the end of the book I was in love. Inherited has everything pirates and faeries, magic and curses and a whole lot of love and adventure. By the end of the book you will be itching to join the crew aboard the Wilted Rose.

Inherited is set on board a cursed a pirate ship called the Wilted Rose, and the crew aboard the ship are forbidden to say ‘I love you’ to anyone they love because if they do then the person they say it to will die. The crew are all heirs of the curse and their mission is to convince the Sorceress who put the curse on the ship to life the curse. Things change when Lennie a member of the Wilted Rose, who is the only women on the ship starts to fall for the new arrival Nathaniel.

I fell in love with all the characters in this book, they are so well developed and life like I wanted to be able to join them on their quest for real. Lennie was a brilliant character and you totally feel for her for all she went through in this book. She gives off the impression that she is a strong and independent pirate but she also has a caring and loving side to her. She will do anything to protect her fellow pirates and that makes her a beautiful character to read about.

Freedom Matthews’s writing is another reason why everyone should check this book out because its stunning. They way she describes battles and locations and the characters suck you in and you become absorbed by the whole story. You can tell that Freedom has thought about the world and the characters because the writing is full of beautiful detail that fleshes out the story.

The story is totally unpredictable and I was unable to guess anything that was going to happen because the whole story is totally original. So much happens in the book that it feels like you have read a whole series, but this is just the first book. I cant wait to see what Freedom has in store for the rest of the series. By the end of the book you feel like you know all the characters personally and you feel sad once you finished because you have to wait for the next book to meet them again.

Inherited is like nothing I’ve read before and it has definitely got me in the mood to read more fiction involving pirates. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a great story about pirates and faeries, or to people who just want to read a fantasy adventure book with an original plot and really interesting characters. This is one of my favourite reads of this year and I can see myself re-reading this every year and not get bored.
