July Wrap Up

In the month of July I managed to read and listen to a total of nine books. All the books I read were all 4 or 5 stars because they were all such great reads.

 

Last Judgement by Michael Canon

A great sci-fi read with some brilliant drawings dotted inside the book. I loved the way the story kept flipping between the main character and his adventures and also the side characters and what they were doing whilst Dylan was else where. My only bad point was the book was not long enough, with it only being 60 pages you left feeling you want a bit more.

The Red Sun (Legends of Orkney) by Alane Adams

This is a great middle grade book involving Norse Mythology. The story follows a boy called Sam who finds out that his father is the son of Odin and his mother is a witch. The adventure kicks into gear when Sam is transported to the world of Orkney. This book was brilliant from start to finish and was really engaging. I will be defintley be picking up the sequel soon.

Frostblood by Elly Blake

Frostblood is about a girl called Ruby who happens to be a Fireblood living in a world controlled by Frostbloods, she must hide her powers or she will be killed. That all I want to say about the plot because I don’t want to spoil it. I wanted this book as soon as I read the description and I was so happy to receive it as part of June’s Fairyloot box. This book is gripping and I fell in love with it right away. The characters, setting and story were all brilliant and it made reading the book so enjoyable.

Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

An epic fantasy novel about a girl who attends a school for assassins. Ive never read anything by Jay Kristoff before but after reading this book I will be checking his other books out. This book was none stop action and adventure, full with violence and blood. I cant wait to read the other books in the series.

The Moonlight Dreamers by Siobhan Curham

This book is about four girls trying to understand and find their place in the world. It is full of heart warming quotes and inspiration that by the end of the book you cant feel anything but warmth and happiness. I enjoyed reading this book, even though I am not the target audience it had me engaged and interested.

 Six of Crows By Leigh Bardugo

I listened to this on audiobook after having a spare credit to use. I still have not finished the last book in the Grisha trilogy, but I’ve heard loads of people praise this book so I decieded to give it a go. For me it had a slow start but once I got into it and remembered the characeters I did enjoy it. I will be defintley listening to the sequel when its released.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K Rowling

I listened to this as an audiobook too. I did try and re-read all the Harry Potter books before the release of The Cursed Child but I ran out of time. This is the first time I have listened to the Stephen Fry edition of the audiobook and I really enjoyed it, he brought the characters to life and made listening to it great fun. I love the story in Goblet of Fire and would say its on of my favourites from the series

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

I’m a little late to the party with this book because the sequel is about to be released. I really enjoyed this book and it had me interested from the start. The world and characters that Sabaa Tahir created are brilliant and really interesting. I cant wait to read the sequeal and jump straight back into the world.

Harry Potter and The Cursed Child by J.K Rowling

I don’t want to say to much about this book because its only just been released and people are waiting to see the play, but I will say that I wasn’t disappointed. I thought I would find it difficult to read a book in script form, but I have to say I enjoyed it and would love to read other in this format. I loved jumping back into the world and reading about the characters again. It has made me even more excited to see the play next year

Its difficult to pick a favourite from the books I read, but if I have to choose I would have to go with Frostblood by Elly Blake.
